  • Comments Thread For: Weights From Russia: Chudinov 159.6 Lb, Bouadla 159.4 Lb

Weights are set for a Saturday night of boxing in a newly acquired Russian city of Sevastopol in Crimea Peninsula.

In the main event, WBA "Interim" middleweight titleholder and WBA #1 rated middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (13-0-2, 8 KOs) faces rugged WBA #12 Frenchman Mehdi Bouadla (30-5, 11 KOs) (neither boxer is rated by TBRB) in the second defense of him minor title. Chudinov hit the scales at 159.6 lb. for Friday's weigh-in, while Bouadla was found to be slightly lighter at 159.4 lb.

The title status surrounding the fight only lends further confusion to the plethora of alphabet belts. WBA #2 Australian Jarrod Fletcher collides with WBA #4 American Daniel Jacobs later tonight in the United States for a "regular" variety of the belt, taking place just hours following the conclusion of this bout.

The only universally recognized WBA beltholder in this weight class is WBA "Super" champion Gennady Golovkin. [Click Here To Read More]

Bouadla unfortunately suffered a nasty cut from sparring with Jack Culcay in Copenhagen. That might affect the outcome for the durable frenchman.

In terms of a TKO vs UD? I don't think Boudla was walking away the title regardless.

After tonight, I'm interested in seeing if Chudinov & Jaccobs happens next as it should. Both are 27 and at similar levels in experience and accomplishments. Though given his run-ins with Pirog and Korobov, Danny hasn't had the best of luck with Russian fighters. Perhaps training everyday with those Ukranian fighters will better prepare him for Dmitry?

This whole situation with the WBA "regular" MW belt is ridiculous and a bit silly. I don't understand, if I'm not mistaken... Both this fight AND Jacobs-Fletcher is for the regular belt?

I'm assuming the winner of Chudinov-Bouadla and Jacobs-Fletcher will fight each other next for the regular belt?

They're supposed to fight one another next, but I doubt it happens til early next year. Right now, Hyrunov has Chudinov fighting around Russia, parading him as a champion, despite it being the 'interm' title. The same will happen with Jaccobs after he wins the 'reg' title. Both sides will want to make some money as advertised 'champions' and build their brand more. I don't think either is in a hurry to fight one another and risk losing that status (let alone fight Golovkin). The WBA will be collecting MW title sanctioning fees from both Russia and NY.

Interesting. Neither guy is definitely not fighting Golovkin- but just to be clear: You're saying that the winners of both of these fights will indeed be mandated to fight each other for the true "regular" belt?
