Comments Thread For: Hearn Says Goldenboy Rejected Quigg-Santa Cruz Bout

World super bantamweight titlists Scott Quigg 28-0-2 (21 KOs) and Leo Santa Cruz 27-0 (15 KOs) will be defending their WBA “regular” and WBC straps respectively on September 13 but Quigg’s promoter, Eddie Hearn revealed to BoxingScene.com that the Mexican tuned down the opportunity to face his unbeaten charge.

Quigg will headline at the Phones4U Arena, Manchester against former WBO bantamweight champion, Paulus Ambunda. The challenger brings a 21-1 (10 KOs) record to the ring with his sole defeat coming by way of a competitive decision loss to Tomoki Kameda last year.

Embarrassing! LSC will face a no hoper and we will be told how many punches he throws per round and how great he is. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL.

The Haymon factor. He does this with all his talented young fighters. As a Leo fan, it really sucks.

I can't wait to see who Santa Cruz is going to fight on September 13. There are not too many available super bantamweight contenders right now. He may end up fighting a little known/unknown fighter. Al Haymon's fighters lately: Broner, Danny Garcia, Matthysse, Peterson, etc.: showcase fights.

            Hearn is full of shït.

Why would he send Quigg to the US to fight LSC on another promoter's card, where Quigg would probably lose, when Hearn is trying to orchestrate a unification of two unbeaten, British "champions" on his PPV in the UK with Quigg v Frampton?

If Hearn is so confident Quigg would beat LSC then why the shíthouse opponent for Quigg in his next fight?

He's keeping him unbeaten and paper champ to make the Frampton fight huge. If Quigg loses first then that fight drops stock massively.

LSC might not have offered Quigg the fight, but Eddie wouldn't have any intention of letting Quigg go and fight LSC in the first place. Not at least until after he's made Quigg v Frampton.

seems like these haymon fighters are just winding up their gbp contracts with easy fights until haymon could take complete control of their fight promotions

Al Haymon makes his fighters good money but he has struggled to build a star from ground floor. Every time he has a talented fighter, he over protects him and when he finally steps up in class he takes an embarrassing L.

I'll admit he's relatively new into the game but its looking like a few more talented young fighters in his stable are headed in that direction.

Seems like SHO has no problem with it, look no further than tomorrow nights embarrassing card. GBP does not seem to be putting up much of a fight either.

he's a manager, not a promoter so he likely doesn't have a solid matchmaker. I doubt if he will ever be able to truly develop a fighter-but he will get average fighters above average paydays.
