Fine. But once again, he could have picked a low ranked JWW. Not a low ranked LW.Ring Ratings at JWW are as follows
1. Lucas Matthysse (Garcia has already fought and beaten him)
2. Lamont Peterson (this is obviously the fight GBP is building)
3. Chris Algeiri (scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao)
4. Ruslan Provodnikov (fights on HBO)
5. Mike Alvarado (fights on HBO)
6. Zab Judah (already beaten by Garcia)
7. Adrien Broner (surprised hes even on the list)
8. Jesse Vargas (fights on HBO)
9. Victor Postol (fights on HBO)
10. Khabib (last fought on HBO)
difficult to make a lot of these fights... I do expect to see Garcia-Peterson next. Garcia needs to move up to welterweight after Peterson because there really isnt much else for Garcia in his division.Comment

I don't like the Caveman Lee comparison either. While sure he didn't deserve a fight with Hagler, he was a fun, entertaining and marketable fighter. He had a war on TV just a couple fights prior. He was a Kronk fighter from Detroit.
Watch the 5th round (go to 3:45) and tell me this wasn't awesome. This is why he got the fight:
Salka literally no one knew him.Comment

first of all this garbage danny is in is not comparable to anything you brought up.
and even if it happened to any top fighter before that doesn't mean it's ok for any top fighter now to do the same.
a **** fight is a **** fight...there's no defending that unless you're a ****** fanboy.Comment

He shouldn't have gone for this guy for a busy fight. He literally could have fought any journeyman junior welterweight and it would have been better than this.I understand not being impressed with the level of Danny's opposition in this fight but lets remember no one was impressed with Herrera before that fight. I thought Herrera would be tough and he was. Now in Boxing tune up fights are something that has always existed.
In 1982 after Roberto Duran fought Wilfred Benitez and lost a tough fight he then had a confidence building fight against a fighter named Kirkland Laing. Kirkland Laing was 23-3-1, he would go on to beat Duran in the upset of the year. Laing would then lose his next fight. In his career he would never win a world title but he still had that one night where he bested Duran.
In 1982 Marvin Hagler faced 22-2 Caveman Lee. Caveman Lee was easy work and was KOed in 1. Caveman Lee "earned" his shot at Hagler by beating 2-8-0 Reyes Escalera. BTW this was for the WBC Middleweight title.
In 1982 after a tough fight with Tommy Hearns, Ray Leonard faced 28-3-1 Bruce Finch with Leonards WBA and WBC titles on the line. Finch earned this fight by beating 0-1-0 Sonny Perez. LOL, you cant make this **** up. Finch obviously lost and would also lose his next 4 fights.
Danny Garcia is 26 years old and coming off of 2 tough fights.... he deserves a tune up... do I like this fight with Rod Salka? Hell no, but its not like its on PPV and its not even a title fight. its free, get over it.
I'm not going to pretend to know how often Hagler and Leonard were fighting at the time of those fights, but fighters in general fought a lot more often then, so fights like those were a given. Kind of how Golovkin fighting 4 times a year brings those less than stellar names into the mix.
The problem, more than anything else, is that Haymon went to the bottom of the lightweight division for this fight. Not the bottom of junior welterweight or even the top or middle of lightweight, he went to the bottom of lightweight.Comment
