Comments Thread For: Salido To Return on 10/4, Open For Francisco Vargas

Former world champion Orlando "Siri" Salido (41-12-2, 28KOs) has decided not to fight on August 30th in Hermosillo, Sonora. Instead he will return on October 4th, against an opponent to be determined, in a bout for the interim-super featherweight title of the World Boxing Organization. The sanctioning body may potentially order a fight between Salido and undefeated contender Francisco Vargas for the vacant crown.

Vargas vs. Salido would make for a great fight. I'd expect a war.

Good fight if it goes down. I'll be going for Vargas if it happens.

WBO is doing interim belts now?

Anyhow I think Vargas can be great, he needs the right opponent(s) to bring it out in him.

Vargas will stop the old faded former champion...even coming in overweight will not help salido against vargas at this point in his career.

The WBO do do them occasionally, they have one at Bantamweight right now. They usually only have them a fight is out of the ring for a prolonged time (so Tomoki Kameda being out the ring for 8 months or whatever it was at 118).

Mikey Garcia hasn't fought since January and there is no sign of when he will return so an interim here is actually not a BAD thing, especially if the winner then faces Garcia when Garcia does return.

For some reason I see Vargas as a world beater at SFW. Kinda doubt Salido can do much with him, but it would be an interesting matchup.
