16k down? No one wants 90-10 match-ups but I wouldn't say the difference in the numbers between Kovalev's numbers in the past two bouts is particularly indicative of that.

9% is not a huge drop, but a drop. In context, GGG and Kovalev both had easy fights that continued their KO streaks. HBO highlighted these streaks as the reason to watch both. Fans didn't turn in as expected.

NSB tends to cite ratings drops as a precursor to better fights so ratings return. Perhaps, that theory applies to GGG and Kovalev. if so, then wouldn't that be a good thing?

The fight was mentioned on ESPN2 yesterday...If it's promoted properly, I wouldn't be surprised to see this fight pull in close to 2 million. It's a very intriguing match up

I'm no mathematician but I don't think 16k is 9% of 1,006,000 (the Agnew average).

If the article is to be believed Kovalev-Caparello had a higher peak audience than Kovalev v Agnew (1,052,000 vs 1,048,000)

It's a solid number in my opinion. Kovalev vs a no name opponent. I am surprised by the Rios number though.
