Exactly the point I made above. A fighter would come out of a fight stopped clean rather than getting rocked constantly for multiple rounds.

Lets look at Lemieux vs Guerrero as an example. Lemieux uses big puffy Floyd gloves to protect his hands. At the end of the third round of Guerrero taking a pounding, there he was quivering on one knee when the fight was stopped after 3 rounds from hell. He would have come out of it much cleaner and less brutalized if taken out cleanly.
