Reid: Lacy will KO Joe!
By Craig Watt
One fighter well equipped to comment on Saturday's WBO/ IBF unification match up at the MEN Arena in Manchester is former WBC champion Robin Reid (38-5-1). He talked exlusively to *********.com at today's weigh in for the big fight on Saturday night. He lost a split decision to Calzaghe in February 1999 in a close and absorbing fight but was stopped by the unbeaten Lacy in August last year in eight rounds. Given he has faced both champions his verdict was for a Lacy win by stoppage in five rounds. He stated, "I have fought both these top champions and Joe's boxing ability is excellent but for me the power of Lacy is just to strong for any super-middleweight out there currently. When I fought Lacy last year he was in my face from the first bell and although from a boxing perspective his style seemed a little amateurish his power was explosive and he dropped me several times will telling blows that had great power. Having been in with Lacy and Joe now at 34 years of age I just think that Lacy has too much power for him. You can see from the weigh-in today how big he is and I cannot see Joe surviving past five rounds. I can only see one winner and that is Jeff Lacy by KO and inside five rounds. I would hope for British boxing it would be different but that's the way I see it having fought both and tasted Lacy's power at first hand." Reid has not fought since the Lacy fight but still has a desire to carry on and take on current British champion Carl Froch later in 2006.
