Comments Thread For: Brook Shocked at Porter's Malignaggi Win, Not Devon

Undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook was not shocked when Shawn Porter unseated Devon Alexander last December for the IBF championship. Brook, who was Alexander's mandatory challenger but saw three scheduled dates fall apart due to injuries, will face Porter on August 16th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

"I wasn't shocked because anything can happen in boxing. I think there's a blueprint over that with Devon against as many fighters who just smother him, because he likes to keep that distance and be on the back foot. So, you know, when watching it, I wasn't really too shocked," Brook said.

Gee, I wonder what he's trying to subtly imply.

I seriously have no idea what the hell this is being brought up for now.

Cotto had a close fight with Paulie. He hurt him early and landed some great shots, but it was actually a pretty close fight.

Hatton won basically every round, hurt Paulie many times, had him out on his feet then stopped him. Did way better than Cotto. A much older Paulie, slower, easier to hit, and a guy that had been getting beaten up a fair bit in his recent outings against much lower opposition came up against a swarming pressure guy with good power and just didn't have the movement or skill to get out of the way anymore. Is it really hard to believe?

Well, believe it or not, people LOVE to bring up the Paulie fight as if it's one of Porter's best achievements for exactly the same reason Brook mentioned; he stopped Paulie in four rounds, something nobody else has ever done.

Those fights were like 6 years ago when Paulie was a bit younger, I don't get shocked when a young hungry fighter destroys an ageing fighter. Because make no mistake about it Paulie is ageing.

Malignaggi lost to Cotto, Khan, Hatton, Broner, Diaz. And got gift decisions against Ngoudo, Cano, and Ndou II. Was "world champion" off of beating 13 loss Lovemore Ndou. No surprise here whatsoever.

porter did look a bit of a beast in the paulie fight no doubt

its probably because he wasn't worried about getting caught on the way in I guess

something does sound odd with the testing on the brook fight though

                  sketchy

I predicted that Porter would maul Paulie so I wasn't shocked.

Then again, I also wouldn't be shocked if Porter was juiced to the gills
