Comments Thread For: Duva: Strategic Bid on Stevens-N’Dam, Came Up Short

When a purse bid was held in mid-July for an elimination bout between middleweights Curtis Stevens and Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, the somewhat surprising result was that Main Events (which promotes Stevens) came up short and N’Jikam’s promoter, Michael King, won the right to stage the fight.

King had bid $80,000, while Main Events had bid $62,000, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com. Main Events will instead feature other fighters on its Sept. 20 show on the NBC Sports Network.

Does that mean 80k gets split into the fighters purse? That's pretty low

That would've been a nice main event for the September 20th card.

NDam's people are ****** for not having this fight televised. Will HBO pick it up or anyone else? You got a chance to have your fighter televised.

Good question. Michael King is listed as only having two previous promotions and neither were televised. Hopefully with the fight being in California, some network will pick it up. Why else bid so much?

Yes, because a no known company have leverage to negotiate with the networks for a fight like this. So many networks jumping on this fight. Wasted.

This is a good fight that hopefully people will get to see. I was getting used to seeing Stevens on NBSsports and I enjoy those cards. guess this promoter, King, is a former TV exec and so maybe that will help get this fight an outlet. I think there are some other folks involved too, i remember actor Kevin Pollack promoting their last card, which Ndam headlined, on local radio ads. Also on a weekday

If N'dam stays disciplined, he will outbox the C-level Stevens with relative ease.
Stevens: good chin-no skills. N'dam: good skills-no chin
