Not necessarily a setback but definitely a reality check. He's not a burgeoning star just yet. They need the right dance partner (more than one) to get him there.

The myth that GGG is a bigger draw than Ward is a lie. Wards live gate and ratings are just as high or all higher than GGG. Alittle research goes a long way.

Im also loving the excuses from the GGG fanboys.

Kovalev drew 1M vs Agnew. Geale, unlike Agnew, had been on HBO before and in a fight of the year candidate.

              Excuses.

This. Ward does very well on HBO. If i'm not mistaken the Ward/Rodriguez fight was just a 1 fight televised card.

Macklin last year was shown pretty much around the same date and it got higher ratings.

NSB as a collective body has the mindset that great fighters fighting average and below average opponents is something fans don't want to turn in and see. Wouldn't this apply to GGG in this case?

Daniel Gaele was a top 5 MW. But most of NSB thinks MW is a very weak division right now. My guess is casual fans do as well. They don't want to see GGG just KO an opponent they firmly believe is overmatched. The low sales suggests this as well.

If you put GGG in with Froch, ward (when his contract is up) or another middle tier draw (yes I know froch and groves just did 80k in wembley) I think fans will tune in. A quillin fight would do well in NYC for sure.

You just can't keep making "GGG getting a KO" as the drawing card. I think the low ticket sales and low ratings suggest fans are telling HBO "we've seen that enough, we want something more".
