Gennady Golovkin’s three-round destruction of former middleweight titlist Daniel Geale drew huge accolades among the media and fans alike, but the overall show proved to be a huge dropoff in terms of cementing his star power.

The July 26 show, which aired live on HBO from Madison Square Garden in New York City, pulled in an average of 758,000 live viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. When factoring in DVR first-time viewings, the show crept closer to 1 million viewers, but became the first major fight for HBO to fail to hit the ‘two-comma’ mark since January.

GGG problem is he isn't American perhaps he'd get a lot more attention If he was fighting in the likes of Germany... I get the feeling the Germans would back him like one of their own just like they did with the K bros.

If Manny can do it in America GGG can as well. He just has to fight known guys.
Preferably from the US. Fighting a guy from Australia that nobody has heard of is a no brainier.

The problem is not that Geale is a bum - he is not. But in order to increase his ratings he should fight someone local or mexican. Absence on HBO since November also contributed to this.

But no excuses. These numbers are quite low, unfortunately. More harcore fans but less mainstream ones. Damn.
