When factoring in DVR first-time viewings, the show crept closer to 1 million viewers, but became the first major fight for HBO to fail to hit the ‘two-comma’ mark since January.

GGG is starting to become old news.. the guy is in his 30's and has yet to fight a real challenger (and sorry GGG fans, but the lady bout is not considered a real challenge) you can only fool the public for so long. GGG is starting to look like a fraud.

Geale was a pretty damn good b-side considering that middleweight isn't really an American/Mexican centric division. Geale was rated #2 in ring magazine. Former unified champion. Got 791k viewers in previous HBO exposure. And the fight was a fight of the year candidate. Maybe with the exception of Quillin, you couldn't have asked for a better b-side middleweight dance partner.

No, you're making assumptions. Quillin is the #2 MW only behind GGG, that would be more than enough for a legit MW defense. I would absolutely love that fight.

The other problem is GGG's comments about fighting everyone from 154-168. A lot of fans don't care if he gets a MW shot or not, they want to see him live up to what he said. Again, its hard to criticize people for that.
Mostly BS hype from Sanchez and Leoffer. I've watched the sport long enough to know these type of guys say anything to hype their guy up. What they truly mean is "we'll fight anyone at a lower weight or higher weight if it makes a lot of money". Similar to Andre Ward saying he'll fight at 160 for Floyd, or countless other fighters who would do something they normally wouldn't do for a big payday/opportunity.

I agree no fighter shoul hold up a belt but blame the sanctioning bodies and TV networks that allow it.

I think its time to face facts-GGG may not get a shot at the MW lineal title ever. The winner of cotto/canelo is fighting Floyd (assuming he is still undefeated) for the big dough.
Which is exactly what I predicted would happen if Cotto beat Martinez. That would be a real tragedy. Imagine if Rigondeaux or someone like that was never given a shot by Donaire. Thats when this sport sucks ass.

I'd love to see Golovkin get a shot at Cotto but Golovkin really doesn't need it to lay claim to be the man at 160, he could do with that Cotto money though.
I won't claim it-he will be. Just as cotto is now.

I get your point and its fair. the winner of quillin/GGG would be the best MW because the lineal title is being fought amongst non MW's.

Thats why I agree with Natas point its not very fair to any true MW.

Yeah but what I'm saying is.... who cares? Whats it matter that this fight only did 750,000 views?

Matters plenty. Ratings decide who fights who next.

Well at least he drew 8,500 fans at MSG with the upper bowl blocked off. They said 7,000 would be considered a success.
