British champion boxer brothers Stephen and Liam Smith arrested over alleged 'gay quarter' assault
Two British champion boxing brothers were being quizzed by police today after a street brawl in a city gay quarter.
Stephen and Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith were arrested for assault following the alleged bust-up in Liverpool on Saturday night.
The early-morning flare-up came just hours as Liam celebrated his birthday and his British title fight defence at the weekend.
Officers in Merseyside said a 29-year-old man was found with “serious” injuries to his face outside gay nightclub Superstar Boudoir on Stanley Street.
Another man, aged 22, was also arrested on su****ion of assault.
All three men spent the night in the cells and were questioned today. They were later released on bail.
A police spokesman said: “Emergency services attended and found a 29-year-old man with serious injuries to his face lying on nearby Victoria Street.
