Loeffler was dumb to say that when all he needed to say is something like "GGG is at 160 and focused on unifying the belts". GGG isn't obligated to go up in weight, nor id anyone else in the sport.

As a fan, not just of GGG but in any division, the lineal title is very important and hardcore fans should always want the best to fight the best so there is clarity in the division. It would be a shame if the lineal 160 title that we can trace back over a decade is passed around by junior middleweights and welterweights while the most deserving, real middleweight never gets a shot. That's what this all about to me.
And what exactly has GGG done to be the most deserving? when there are two other Middleweight belt holders in Soliman and Quillin?

Imagine Golovkin fights for a SMW title against a SMW in a catchweight fight of 167lbs, Golovkin comes in at 161-162lbs on the scale, and wins. Let's say he beat Arthur Abraham for his WBO SMW title(Even though an exact example would be beating The Ring champ Andre Ward, we can't do that because Martinez actually lost to Murray in many fans eyes, he was also coming off surgery and was old. So let's pick a more vulnerable titlist, Arthur Abraham).

Andre Ward says "Hey, you have a SMW title, you are a SMW now, fight me". Is Golovkin really a SMW, despite weighing just 1lb above 160 and beating a vulnerable SMW(Like Martinez was)?

Would you see Golovkin, weighing in at 161lbs for a SMW fight, as a an SMW? I know you want to save face and say yes, to not look like a hypocrite. But you can be honest. Would Golovkin be a 168lber if he beats another 168lber while coming in at the scales at 161lbs?
There's no getting through to him, why try.

        • Here's the truth and I'm saying all of this as a boxing fan not a Cotto fan.

Cotto SHOULD NOT fight GGG at all. This fight makes no sense from a financial standpoint nor is it in the best interest for Cotto's health. Cotto is on the back end of his career. He's looking for money and there's nothing wrong with that. But I agree with everyone saying he should vacate the titles and head back down to 154 for a Canelo fight. He made Puerto Rican boxing history now its time to give the titles to the fighters that will defend it against the mandatory challengers....

But here is the TRUTH. All of you guys saying Cotto should fight GGG are probably the same people who thought Martinez was going to knock him out in 4 rds lol. If he was past his prime when he was about to fight Martinez why wouldnt he still be against a Prime GGG. And so does that mean GGG ducked Ward? Its the same argument different fighters. If its wrong for Cotto its wrong for GGG. He's looking for a big payday that's why he wont fight Ward. So is Cotto thats why he'll likely fight Canelo/Mayweather. But at least that arguments coming at the end of his career not in his prime.

That's not what they are saying, they are saying GGG is not in the majors but somehow Trout was? Bullsht.

                • That was the same lame excuse Cotto & his team used after Martinez KO'd Williams, but after a while when Cotto & his team saw Martinez slipping(bad knees & hand in back to back fights & age creeping up) then he decided to challenge Martinez.Funny that I didn't see any of that come into question when Cotto fought Trout..They are gonna give GGG the good old "You are not marketable yet" speech & give him the run around..

                  • Cotto fans sounding a lot like Floyd fans:

"He is not a real MW though" (then surrender the title and be honest)

" he needs to earn it like Trout." (Cotto draws in his own regardless of opponent)

Whatever. I respect Cotto, but lost to Floyd Pac and Trout. GGG mauls him
