Comments Thread For: Shaw: Jennings gets Stiverne-Wilder winner by early '15

Bryant Jennings’ fight with Mike Perez this past Saturday was a heavyweight elimination bout in which the winner would get to challenge the victor of the upcoming bout between World Boxing Council titleholder Bermane Stiverne and undefeated challenger Deontay Wilder.

Jennings topped Perez by split decision. His promoter, Gary Shaw, says he’s been told by the WBC’s Mauricio Sulaiman that open negotiations for Stiverne-Wilder will begin in August, “and that fight will have to take place by November/December.” [Click Here To Read More]

I'm hoping that all of these fights come off in a timely fashion. With DK involved it doesn't seem likely that Stiverne will face Wilder this year - they've already made up some b.s. excuse about Bernie being injured.

If Stiverne-Wilder doesn't get made this year and maybe happens in Q1 2015, then where does that leave Bryant Jennings? Does Jennings sit out on the sidelines indefinitely waiting for his shot, or does he fight in the interim?

I want to see Jennings back in action this year - and I think it benefits him if he 'stays busy.'

Harsh, but true. He was on his back leg all night, Perez wasn't in front of him, he was on top of him. Perez continually beat him to the punch, then grabbed with open arms, big happy birthday hugs. No jab, no step back, or to the side from Jennings, just block and duck into a headlock. I can't see him carrying Ustinov for twelve, Fury can jab a little, Stiverne has 30 lbs to go with his style, Wilder aint gonna miss. I don't see a bright future for Jennings.

Cunningham fight IMO. He's a name, his daughter can use the money and he gave a great showing this year in, I think it was, nbc's best show.

Is Cunningham from Philly? I don't remember

I guess this means that any chance of a unification fight with Wlad is on the back burner for now? No, I guess in reality it really isn't even on the stove or possibly not even in the kitchen. That sucks.

Jennings is not a top level heavyweight. He's B class and so is Perez. I wouldn't give either guy much of a chance against Stiverne. Wilder is still truly untested, regardless of his crazy knockout streak. There must be some real power there but he's never had to fight anyone equally as powerful or with solid boxing skills. That fight against Malik Scott was bogus and doesn't prove anything. It was just too suspect a stoppage. Jennings should take on someone like Chris Arreola. It won't get him closer to a world title but it might be a closer fight than his current prospects.
