As smart is he when it's come to offense (good jab, cutting off the ring, precize, strong comibantion) the same simple is he when it comes to defense. He has a solid chin and he relies on it a little. Golovkin defense = his chin and sometimes a conservative high guard, otherwise he has a little to none lateral movement and head movement, he doesn't try to dodge or anything like that, he is there to counter just his opponenets don't dare to counter him because they fear from a counter-counter (see what happened with Geale now...). I know that Golovkin is a well schooled boxr, he has a succesfull amateur past this is why I don't understand why is he so simple when it comes to defense?
I guess because since his opponents usually don't dare to hit back he has to defend himself more rarely, than others, but there's a chance that he'll have big problems from the lack of defense later against top fighters. We will see.

At the very least, Golovkin's chin is really, really good and it will take a huge puncher to stop him.

He did not get hit flush. If you look at the sequence when they throw the lefts ggg is already in position with his feet but throws and immediately leans back and pulls his head back. There is an angle at which you can see Geale's punch actually barely lands. GGG suckered him in to throw the right and maintained his feet while leaning back and immediately came back with the knockout punch. He maintains his composure through the whole sequence, and sees his knockout punch landing. Pretty good. Someone with much longer reach might do better, but that's a really good boxer who has a tremendous punch.

That's when he feels that there's no real danger than he allow's to be hit in order to dish something serious.
