Jennings looked scared of Perez' power early on, I was wondering if that was because he actually felt his power or because he was aware of what he did to abdulsalamov. jennings' gameplan was obviously to box him from the outside which failed miserably and it wasn't until late in the fifth that he noticed he was much more effective on the inside
also, the way jennings was moved by perez' punches despite his tight guard made feel wilder would do scary things to jennings if they were to fight, wilder has the kind of power that would smash that guard with a single punch
I had it 116-114 for Perez... I think Perez just pretty much took control from the early stages and he won some during the late sector of the fight.
The referees point deduction was absolute BS, Jennings done the same type of thing but he actually landed a 3 to 4 punch combo with Perez just standing there taking it after the ref called break...
The ref gave not a single warning to Jennings he seemed very pro Jennings but what more do you expect!
Disappointing fight for the most part. I don't see Jennings doing much in the division if he barely squeaks by a fat Perez. And geez, Perez is in the midst of a black fog now it seems. For as great as he looked vs Mago, he looks just a shadow of that version. Too fat, gases too easily, lacks concentration... Adam Booth needs to go. Perez needs to get a decent trainer.
And I'm 100% with Harold Ledderman... Harvey Dock did a complete b.s. move with that point deduction. There was no clear cut 'last warning', and besides, I didn't see Perez do much of that anyway. And Jennings gets by with the same move earlier. Absolutely no sense in a ref making himself the difference in a fight. Smells like someone was paid off to me.
I don't feel sorry for Perez at all. It wasn't a horrible fight until Jennings started taking control then Perez reverted to constant clinching. That DESERVES A POINT!
That was disgusting. I was looking forward to this fight and was disappointed Perez made it ugly. Jennings showed he is still too raw for the next step up in competition. He showed glimpses of a good heavyweight contender with a couple of those combinations but is too focused on the basics.
I'd like to see him against Tony Thompson or Malik Scott next. Somebody who won't smother him but will give him a damn good run for his money skill wise.
At the time of the deduction Perez drove is head directly into Jennings face..............it's right there on film!!!!! He then punched after the ref called "break" its right there on film!!!
You cry babies need to grow up!!! Without the point taken it would have been a draw!!
A draw is f8ine to me because neither men are championship caliber in any way. Perez is the least talent Cubano fighter I think I've ever seen. The guys a bull rusher without any power and he he's a BS'er in the ring, big bluff!
Jennings needs to listen to his corner and get "off first" and throw his right hand from distance. Stop falling inside and having himself tide up, he fought a garbage fight plan and did it on his own. His corner knew how to win the fight. Perez corner is a joke, they kept telling him to do this & that so Jennings "embarrasses" himself!!!!! WTF is that about???
These are marginal talents that fought poorly there was one or two rounds of action other then that a complete bore!
If Jennings could get his head right he could give a good showing, Perez is a B- class guy with very little appeal.
Ray.
The point deduction was 100% justified, Perez came in with a deliberate headbutt.
Perez was very negative and made the fight less entertaining, he was tired by the mid-rounds, but survived by holding. The ref should have stopped him from repeatedly clamping Jennings' arm.
Kinda disappointed with this fight. Both guys looked average and the fight itself was overall boring. Jennings was outboxed at times and was confused by Perez' offensive in the early rounds. After Perez started gassing out, Jennings was able to land the cleaner punches - even still, his offensive was dismal at times as Bryant seemed content to coast.
