Comments Thread For: Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Geale: Pre-Fight Report Card

It’s not uncommon for a fighter with as little on their professional resume as Gennady Golovkin to capture the imagination. Whatever ‘it’ is, Golovkin has captured the essence. He looks the part. His punches sound the part.

Even as he already grows older than most realize, it feels like the future of the Middleweight division has arrived and yet is still emerging.

    But about that resume…

      Big suspense about this fight...
People are very confuse on the possible outcome, I guess.

Yea, I'm not confused. I know exactly how it will go. Tripple G annihilates Geale inside 7 rounds. If Geale pushes harder, it will happen earlier.

Good write up Cliff but i disagree with your opinion that 160 is considerably weaker than the other two Middleweight divisions 154 and 168 have been very overrated for a couple years now.

I'm not saying 160 is overly strong but acting like the 3-6 ranked boxers in the other two divisions are higher quality is completely off. RING has Molina, Trout, Andrade, Martirosyan and Steiglitz, Groves, Bika, Degale in those spots.

Hell i wouldn't even favor the #2 Canelo over him and lets not forget he comes in the ring weighing just as much as Geale as do most the JMW's who are really just scared MW's looking for a size advantage. Look at how badly he struggles with movement and imagine Geale doing it while actually punching and not afraid to engage. With his workrate and footwork i could see Geale taking that fight against the overrated Canelo.

Neither of their defense is a B. More like C+. It's like Geale likes getting hit and going into wars from what I have seen and Golovkin uses his chin as defense. I would not call that B defense.

This is a pretty one sided "1vs 2" matchup. If you think about it Cotton isn't staying and Sergio is done so this is your real 1 and 2.

Ive never seen geale fight so im not really sure about the outcome of this fight , what i do know is that ggg is monster and i dont think theres anyone at 160 that can stop him , cotto or quillen or maybe canelo have the skill to fight him and those are the fights he should be looking for after geale . Martinez will be destroyed by ggg but martinez is done .. Too many injuries

Yeah, I think it's not unfair to call this a fight between the worlds two top MWs , Cottos lineal title notwithstanding.. Maravilla is effectively shot, and the only other guy who might have had a claim is Sturm, who has now been fairly beaten by both Geale and Soliman.

FWIW I also see Soliman as a tricky fight for GGG, but despite Solimans strap, Geale is the more proven at 160.
