Jeff Lacy was never elite. Was NEVER a pound for pound entrant.

While i agree he was not elite, Calzaghe proved that, he was considered as a pound for pound entrant and most people said whoever won this fight would enter the top 10.

Calzaghe won and became an entrant. If Calzaghe was as bad as most in America thought, Lacy could have very likely entered the top 10.

Agreed. Although Lacy was just overrated. Period.

point is that everyone in boxing thought this was a huge risk for calzaghe. People act like he never took a tough fight. Some of today's elite could learn from it.

Def a risk - moreso for Lacy who flew to the UK for that fight. Truthfully, i was never impressed by him and picked Joe C to win. I didn't expect that level beatdown but it just goes to show you.

Lacy was a huge betting Fav to beat Calzaghe. Looked like a mini Tyson and was KOing anybody put in front of him. Calzaghe was very unknown to most of the world. I doubt at that point, many of you were so dead set on Calzaghe. I would like to see some time dated posts.

To be honest the original article was pretty unbiased comapred to most others at the time.
From what I remember of most 'expert opinions' was that Lacy would get the KO and in pretty easy style.
I dont recall many/if any from outside the UK giving Joe much of a chance.
Kinda what made it such a great fight.

Wow. People really thought the world of Lacy.

I never thought much of him prior to Cal.

But i'll admit I didn't see any of Cal prior so I didn't have an opinion on the fight at the time.
