Discussions are ongoing for a fight between the second-ranked featherweight under the World Boxing Council (WBC), Puerto Rico's Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez (22-0, 16KOs), and WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (56-8, 47KOs), for September 13th at the MGM Grand of Las Vegas. The Showtime Pay-Per-View main event is a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana.

Hector Soto of Miguel Cotto Promotions, is the co-promoter of Velez. He is handling the negotiations. Promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing is also holding talks for Cristian Mijares to get Gonalez, but Showtime is more interested in Velez.
