Comments Thread For: Shaw: Geale Must Start Fast, Engage Golovkin To Win

We could be in store for some early fireworks on Saturday night in New York's Madison Square Garden. Two-time middleweight champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16KOs) has been advised by his trainer, Graham Shaw, to start fast and to engage WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26KOs).

Geale will have to hit, and not get hit, to win. There have been questions about whether or not Golovkin's stamina, and punching power, will be able to last in a tough fight that enters the second half. Most of Golovkin's opponents have been broken down within the first six. Geale, and his trainer, are going to explore every question about Golovkin's level of talent.

I may be in the minority in stating this but I give Geale a better shot than most. This dude isn't coming to lay down.

If geale comes straight at ggg, he is a dead man walking..

He needs to make ggg miss and expend energy early, conserve his own, and look to take ggg into deep waters where ggg might gas after throwing bombs for 7-8 rds.. Then geale has to bounce on a tired ggg and rally late... That's the only shot he has IMO

Geale definitely needs to box smart, work off angles, keep a tight defence, and just look to box golovkin and stay away from that power.

As sugar Adam said, If he comes straight in and tries to get too busy he's getting knocked clean out

I agree that geale is a live dog,, he is coming to win, I just think he is outgunned and his style doesn't really exploit ggg's weakness.. But he will put up a valiant effort

As others have said Geale really needs to use lateral movement and make GGG miss.

Coming in straight at GGG with all guns blazing is exactly what he shouldnt do.

I agree with Shaw on this one - go out and try to win the first two rounds. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Geale is a very live dog IMO. I think his style will cause Gennady some problems.

I want this fight to go into the later rounds so we can really see what Gennady is made of.

I was thinking the opposite. Carefully box the first few rounds and slowly increase the work rate each round. Try to keep the first half of the fight close without expending much energy. There come on more each round after the sixth. Pull GGG out to sea in the late rounds and make him test the waters!

I think this is just talk. Geale will try drag Gennady in deep waters.
