I remember watching him just flat out wreck fighters to a 25-0 record with something like 20 KO's. Then they put him in the ring with Hopkins...

Still one of the most vicious KO's that comes to memory. If I recall correctly, most felt it was to soon to fight Hopkins (I believe he was a champ at the time. Hopkins that is), Lipsey paid for it. Never fought again, if I'm not mistaken.
thats a great call. especially since he was a guy who wasnt necessarily over hyped but rather thrown to the lions too soon and made to pay with his career. that KO was savage, every time i watch it i cant believe how many punches BHop landed before he hit the ground.

..and you are right, he never fought again after that.

vivian harris gets a shout from me, stayed relevant a good while and was in some big fights but with extremely poor results for the most part. at one point he was considered a future top p4p fighter, a lot of people thought he was the best fighter at 140 even as cotto and floyd were in the division. he came fairly close to fighting them both too and they were considered just about 50/50 fights at the time.

a recent one would be fernando guerrero. he still has time but i find it very unlikely that he would live up to the hype at this stage or even come close.

        Edwin Valero..cause ya know....
Seriously though, I think David Reid would be a good example. Great prospect who was rushed into title fights about 12-15 fights into his career and never amounted to much but had tons of hype surrounding him.
Adrien Broner hasn't done squat yet and was ranked top 5 P4P lol.

David Price was looking like a real threat until his coming out party, then the repeat. I now don't see him doing anything at all at world level.

              Andy Lee

Disagree about andy lee. He's only 30 and suffered one tough loss to chaveez in his career. this guys aint done, and he just scored a spectacular KO

I think Arum thought he had the next Cotto because he sure did Protect the hell out of him from Gamboa

Andre Berto OF COURSE agree with others Posting Victor Ortiz he was Oscar first Protege before Canelo lol

Consider the HYPE behind Bute and Lemieux before they got knocked out, Lemieux seem like he is working his way back but after the Pascal loss, that put a END to BUTE!

I dont see how any body can call an ex champ a prospect, when you win the belt that is when the prospect label is officially justified and removed.

Those are ex champs who did not live up to the expectations.

Jeff Lacy is a name that springs to mind. He was hyped, had a decent amateur career, and was a favourite going into the fight with Calzaghe. Then Joe slapped the soul out of him.
