Comments Thread For: Stiverne-Wilder Will Soon Be Ordered By The WBC

The World Boxing Council (WBC) will soon issue an order to begin negotiations for the mandatory heavyweight fight between champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21KOs) and challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31KOs). Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, confirmed that in the second week of August his organization will issue letters to both sides to begin negotiations. If a deal is not reached in 30-days, then a purse bid will be ordered.

So if they order this, Perez/Jennings winner will be ordered for next year since Stiverne has to make 2 mandatory defenses... that's if he gets past the first one

(To quote Triple H) "Here's the thing"... I don't see what is so special about Stiverne. All the time I keep reading that Wilder is a twig-legged bum who's only faced stiffs, and for the most part I agree, but I genuinely don't see any attributes of Stiverne that are much better in terms of being a spectacular fighter with the "it factor". He's a squat stocky guy like Sam Peter, Eddie Chambers, Chagaev, Ibragimov, and a whole heap of other "champions" in the past decade. What am I missing?

OK, his defence is pretty good (although Arreola was clacking him in the first few rounds of the rematch), he has "ring smarts", but what good is all that when up against the freakish power that Wilder has? Sure, Stiverne might stretch out the rounds and drag Wilder into deeper waters than before, but Wilder has that equaliser - one tap in the right place and Stiverne might very well crumple up in a heap just like everyone else.

Stiverne is already loading up on that counter punch. Its an interesting matchup.

Not taking anything away from Wilder power, but Stiverne power is just as freakish. Stiverne gets his ko's while taking his time looking to place good shots and counters where as Wilder just overwhelms fighters. Question I have on this fight is, Can Wilder pressure keep Stiverne on the defense and keep him from pulling counters? Can Stiverne cleanly land his counters? Two punchers, differnt styles, to me its interesting clash of styles cause they both can ko anyone with one punch.
