by David P. Greisman - It was an ambitious tour to promote the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana. The itinerary listed events for the press and public in five cities over the span of 72 hours, including four cities within about 30 hours. They were to go from New York City on Monday afternoon to Washington, D.C., by Monday evening. Tuesday brought Chicago and San Antonio, with the concluding stop coming in Los Angeles on Thursday.

But the kickoff in Manhattan’s Times Square started late. And then Mother Nature pitched in with heavy rain, grounding three private jets an airport in northeast New Jersey. Mayweather, Maidana and others remained on the runway on Monday evening while fans stood outside DAR Constitution Hall in the Nation’s Capital, lining up for the dual entertainment of the Mayweather-Maidana promotional event and a Wale concert.

Even after the D.C.-born rapper finished his performance, hundreds remained in the concert hall, waiting for Mayweather to arrive, their numbers dwindling bit by bit as evening gave way to night. Those who stayed had waited for more than four hours beyond when the event was initially supposed to begin. And they waited even after they knew Mayweather was there, while the best boxer in the world sat in a back room speaking for 15 minutes to the four media members who were left. Thank you Chino for clarifying that. I believe the gloves are more of an issue between Mayweather and GARCIA than it is with Maidana.

His trainer Robert Garcia is also on film admitting that Floyd Mayweather Jr is "the greatest of all time" lol and he also says "He (floyd mayweather jr) is showing the people what boxing is all about". Hope that clears somethings up for some people. lol

Ducked margarito and fought judah instead. Ducked margarito a second time and turned down the 8 mill and fought baldomir instead for 8 mill. Not cuz of de la hoya. He still couldve fought margarito and then de la hoya. nope he ducked margarito a 3rd time and fought de la hoya at a higher weight class for more money. Ducked P williams at 147 and chose to fight 140 lb champ ricky hatton at 147 lbs limit. Called out, signed contract fight to fight winky wright, pulled out of the fight and ducked him to fight sharmba mitchell (the same mitchell that knocked his uncle out). "In 2007-08, Cotto was the next best welterweight in the world behind Mayweather. A thrilling fighter during his 140lbs title run, he had moved up in weight and easily disposed of Quintana, smashed the over-matched Urkal, stopped Judah and then beaten a resurgent Mosley in an excellent bout. He was by any definition the most deserving fighter to face Mayweather and, with the rabid Puerto Rican fans behind him, he was a legitimate superstar who brought serious financial clout as well. There was no reason for the bout not to be made. But Mayweather instead signed for a pointless rematch with De La Hoya.

Seemingly this wasn't the end of the world for the bout. After all, Mayweather would surely beat De La Hoya and Cotto only had to get through Alfonso Gomez (which he did with ease) and then the two would match up. It was obvious. Then Mayweather "retired" instead of taking the second De La Hoya bout."
