no matter who floyd picks, they always say its an easy fight, that to me shows the amount of respect ppl have for floyd that regardless who he faces people say its a cherry pick..pacquiao dont get that respect, every fight hes in its a toss up because hes not on floyds level..just look at how his fans are justifying this crap opponent algieri.. they did the same when he fought rios.Comment

Algieri didn't earn a fight with Pacquaio, neither did Brandon Rios. Even the first time against Tim Bradley, Bradley hadn't done anything at 147 really. But his resume at least could justify the match. The fight with Algieri is only being made because Top Rank wants to keep their profits in-house, and they have a very limited stable of guys at Welter. If it wasn't Algieri, the opponent would have been Provodnikov or someone of lesser status.
And if Algieri loses, we'll probably see Pacquaio vs. Vargas next.
Thurman and Porter are also in house easy fights to make and more better than Maidana rematch, yet Floyd is not fighting them.
If Either of those guys were with Top Rank, Arum would throw them in with Pac, he has no trouble doing that.
Also Algieri is not a Top Rank fighter, he is Joe Deguardia's fighter.
The big question here is why isn't Floyd fighting guys who can actually move and still fighting flat foot fighters, why not give a young blood like Thurman or Porter a shot, Porter has the title, I don't want to see Floyd vs. Garcia either he is flat footed.
Garcia has a good style to beat someone like Pacman who comes in reckless but he doesn't have the style to beat a boxer like Floyd who pot shots and gets out.
I only want to see Floyd in against movers with stamina and guys who you actually think have a shot, no more canelo, guerrero, maidana, or garcia flat foots. I would like to see Floyd fight Tim Bradley, Chris Algieri should he beat Pac, Amir Khan, Keith Thurman, or Shawn Porter at 147 to unify.
At 154 id like to see him fight Demetrius Andrade.Last edited by hectari; 07-20-2014, 03:27 PM.Comment

The only real surprise should be why so many people, after complaining about Pacquiao's rematches, are now suddenly okay with Mayweather having an immediate rematch with somebody who he already beat? That's very biased.Last edited by Mr. Punch-Out!!; 07-20-2014, 03:43 PM.Comment

For the reason of finance, Khan would be selected for a Floyd match over Thurman and Porter. And if this was Top Rank, Arum wouldn't hesitate choosing Khan for Pacquaio over Porter and Thurman. You think Arum really wanted to make the Algieri match? He had little choice since Marquez isn't that interested. Because if Marquez were interested or at worst wasn't pricing himself out, Algieri would never get this shot.
Greed/money tends to taint anything it touches.Comment

You could make the same case for Maidana too, as he hardly did anything at 147 prior to the first Mayweather fight (he didn't even beat a real welterweight to get the match) but we saw how that fight turned out and now all of a sudden, Maidana "deserves" a rematch (despite Floyd having more available opponents lining up to fight him than Pacquiao than does). Pac could have gone for a rematch like Floyd did but he didn't and that's nothing to fuss about.
The only real surprise should be why so many people, after complaining about Pacquiao's rematches, are now suddenly okay with Mayweather having an immediate rematch with somebody who he already beat.
Maidana doesn't deserve the rematch. He's really only getting the rematch because of financial purposes, because they have a better chance at doing numbers than with the other options at Golden Boy.
Pacquaio's rematches were different because he did it 4 times with one guy. And with Bradley, he clearly won the first time, but was robbed. A rematch was pretty unnecessary. But Top Rank had limited options, and Bradley was their best one outside of Marquez.Comment

I like certain aspects of Algieri's game, I've given this a lot of thought and no longer think it's a horrible fight. It'll never be PPV worthy but it's a pretty good fight I'll be looking forward to. Algieri doesn't set traps well, needs to work on fixing his right hand but what he does have is that he's consistently on the move circling, punches whilst on the move, this will give him room to counter Pacquiao when Manny starts lunging in with the same repetitive attacks. Think Algieri will do pretty well and as mentioned Pacquiao isn't the same fighter anymore.Comment

You can't make the same case against Maidana, because he had wins over Lopez, Karass, Broner, etc. And he was the underdog against Broner, even if we would like to argue that Broner was overrated. Broner was a legitimate champion (even though he didn't necessarily earn the title shot).
Maidana doesn't deserve the rematch. He's really only getting the rematch because of financial purposes, because they have a better chance at doing numbers than with the other options at Golden Boy.

Pacquiao's rematch with Bradley wasn't really unnecessary, since around this time, Bradley had beaten Marquez and became the champion. The rematch actually meant a lot more than first fight for both of them, more so than Mayweather vs. Maidana. Still, the point is, Mayweather has more people at welterweight to fight him than Pacquiao does. Sure, this rematch might make sense financially but people could buy into guys like Thurman and Porter being a more legitimate threat to Floyd than Maidana and that alone would have sold the fight.Last edited by Mr. Punch-Out!!; 07-22-2014, 09:42 PM.Comment
