none of those guys were boxing fans when Sanders was around.

I was and I can tell you he was not considered a beast or anything like that at the time. Decent fighter from time to time, but certainly nothing special.

He got knocked out by Nate Tubbs in two rounds and was mostly known for just being a nice guy. Good power and all that, nothing special.

You're correct in part. Everyone knew Sanders stocked power, but there were questions about his commitment to the sport (for example: he rarely came in in shape). He lucked out with the win over Wladimir.

Putting the forthcoming fight to one side, Sanders vs. Fury would have been a great bout, IMO.

There was absolutely nothing "lucky" about that win. Wlad and his promoter knew they were outmatched, that's why they never exercised the instant rematch clause.

I see that as being comparable to Fury's fight with someone like Abell. To coin an Elroy phrase - Sanders was like a 'Super' Abell on steroids. If I recall, Abell hurt Fury a couple times...and I think Sanders would probably beat Fury half the times they fought out of 10...Fury would be wide open for that left up the pipe from Sanders...look at the way he fought Vitali - if he was able to rock Vitali Klitschko I think Fury would be doing less the silly dance but rather sleeping on the canvas, singing in his dreams.

Wlad is the baddest man on the planet until unseated, which lets be honest isn't happening until he retires some time in the next 3-4 years undefeated in 13-14 years

I'm not dismissing the fight so much as trying to put it in its proper perspective. Fury fought like an idiot in that fight, for the reasons denium and myself have already mentioned, and that's why he got himself in a position to be dropped. He didn't respect Cunningham's power, repeatedly referring to him in the build up as a tiny cruiserweight, and wasn't expecting any serious return fire. When it did come it caught him by surprise and dropped him. That's all there is to it really.

If you want to make a bigger deal out of it than it was then go ahead.

The fight should have been ruled a NC, so no that isn't all there is to really is there, their was talk of appealing te decision but for whatever reason it was never pursued, I remember certain members of camp USS being upset with officiating at the time, and that was after Fury was deducted points when he was getting desperate.

A no contest? lol, don't be ridiculous.

USS was taking a severe beating, if Fury hadn't stopped him then, he would've stopped him shortly after. If you want to go down that road, Wlad should've been disqualified against Povetkin for constantly holding & clinching.
