    Stepping v.s. Sliding

When you move, do you lift the foot (that's following(back leg)) fully or do you keep the ball of your backfoot lightly on the ground and slide it?
Which one you consider to be the correct way?
I don't know which to do because some coaches seem to go for sliding while some go for stepping. Which is more popular among the best pros and ammys?

Sliding is definitely the more efficient way. This way you're always ready to move quickly. Every inch and second counts in boxing. Have to be as ready as possible for any situation.

the extra friction of sliding is quicker and more efficient?!

Yes, quicker than lifting your foot off the canvas and having to place it back down when you need to move. When you slide, you don't keep the entire foot planted down. You keep the ball of your foot on the canvas and slide it to follow the lead foot.

Sliding saves a bit of energy but sometimes you got to step out way. There is not a real answer which is better it simply depends on the situation

ok thanks, i'll remember that for future use.
i wonder why people walking and running don't use the sliding technique then. seems odd to me. any thoughts..?

Since you are planting off the back foot and launching it would be unwise to "pick up" your back foot .. your back foot can slightly leave the ground from the overall momentum.. but I wouldn't call it a step.. it's called a jump step.

That's for going forward.. but if u r going backward.. and your front foot is the foot that is planted and launching... then you pick up your back foot to aid the jumpstep backwards (or laterally)

                  Balance and power.

The jump step (forward or backwards) allows you to keep form and be ready at all times to attack or defend.

Walking and running puts you too straight up and down...throws your center off... and dislodges your root from whence you derive your power.

Jumpstep is the most efficient way to move yourself while remaining combat ready
