Boxing will always enjoy it's same place in sports. Even if/when MMA truly spreads globally, it will never be able to gain the same level of professionalism as boxing does.
Boxing is a highly developed and sure discipline unlike MMA which is of course skilled but because of it's all in nature will never be a refined art like boxing. There will always be many times fewer MMA fighters than boxers because of the almost senseless barbarism of the sport.
Merchant said it best.. "I can't take a sport seriously where you can be a world champion with a record like 6-2.
Also there will always be something more noble about boxing, this kicking and rolling around on the floor **** will never have the same allure as the slickness and image of a pure punching contest.
Boxing is a cultural icon for many centuries and isn't going anywhere ever.
Doctors? No matter how many studies are done, nations will never ban boxing, it is as much a part of all cultures as anything is, because they are the most courageous and sharpest of warriors.
