I know it's been asked many times before about Cotto but.....

I think that 90% of the boxing media/announcers/trainers/fans the only peoe who don't believe are either Cotto haters or Margarito fans. But look at the facts and it's not a question. But the Cotto we have been seeing is the vintage old school Cotto but w a better defensive game and ring generalship and prob even footwork all due to Working w Roach.

But my question is do you think Miguel's career would've been significantly diff or better if he had someone like ****m or Roach watching Margs hand wraps that first fight. Basically would he have been the wrecking machine he always was if Margs didn't have loaded gloves? Granted he wouldntve knocked him out bc of his iron like jaw. But IMO he would've beaten him on points alone.

Then obviously he was never the same fighter and for whatever reason he stopped using his best weapon. The weapon that Max and Jim Lampley said is the best since Joe Frazier. That devastating left hook to the body/head mostly body. So what u think would he be undefeated still ? ( we gotta figure if Cotto still looked like he did 04-08 Mayweather prob wouldn't have fought him, Manny maybe but Miguel wouldn't have been those damaged goods and had to agree to 145) but who knows maybe he also would've never linked up w Roach and fine tuned his other skills if he did t have those set backs . So let's hear what you think. Where would he be if the gloves weren't loaded in Summer 2008?

We will never know but... I think the fight took a mental toll and not physical. Although he has aged, I think his experience will help him compensate in other areas where he has slowed down. There is a possibility he is a better fighter now but IMO, it is hard to tell based on his last two fights due to some question marks about level of opposition(Rodriguez) and injuries (Maravilla). Lots of questions still unanswered for me.

I think Cotto was definitely a better boxer at 140 and early 147. That version was just a joy to watch. What Roach has done is go back to that style, teaching those fundamentals again and getting Miguel to use the tools he frequently utilized back then (his jab, left hook to the body and footwork). He's slowed down but is still spry and has a lot of experience.

My thoughts exactly . Plus ...he still hasn't got hit as much or as solidly as the MARG or PAC fights .

Cotto LOOKS like he's back to pre-Margarito...but he is not. That's why there's a drop in level of opponents. Sorry but taking on Delvin R and Sergio Martinez is not gonna make me think he's back to prime Cotto.

That being said, let's not forget Cotto, with Pedro Diaz, gave Mayweather quite a fight. He clearly lost, but it was a lot closer than most of us, myself included, thought it would be. So, is he back? Or is it that he never left and just got the drive and hunger back?

Cotto should continue to capitalize on this career second wind. I definitely think he should fight Canelo, but not yet. He can still bank on another win at MSG before that.

He doesn't have the athletic ability he did when he was younger or the same aggressiveness, but his experience and conditioning are at a higher level than he's ever had IMO.

The Cotto that fought Mosley was a machine. Crowd pleasing style and technically sound fighter all in one. That Margacheato fight took something out of him for sure.
Happens to a lot of fighters that lose that feeling of invincibility.

Roach has given him back his confidence and warrior mindset. Roach is good in giving motivation. Cotto always had a fire in him thats why he cant fight a disciplined fight, he went ****ing with prime manny when shouldnt have to. Roach's training complements to cottos fire because hes teaching more offense. I believe he is better now than he was at 147 and 140. This version of him would have done better against manny and floyd at those times he met them.
