Comments Thread For: Golovkin, Team Say They Are Not Ducking Andre Ward

WBA Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is less than 2 weeks away from headlining his first fight at Madison Square Garden in New York when he takes on what most people consider his biggest challenge in Daniel Geale.

With Golovkin’s fight looming, Super Middleweight kingpin Andre Ward said in a recent interview that he feels Golovkin is ducking him as a fight between both fighters has often been discussed but has not come close to becoming a reality.

When BoxingScene spoke to Golovkin at his media day in Los Angeles, he was asked what his reaction was to Ward’s claim.

Oh good, now Ward can stop name dropping GGG to stay somewhat relevant.

Not one sensible boxing fan thinks Golovkin is ducking Ward

Like.... It's not even possible to duck a guy who is a division above you, hasn;t fought in a year, and doesn't even have a promoter.

On a side note: Did Ward retire or is he still training?

Whenever you start talking finances not adding up, it sounds like duck talk.

I'm pretty sure this fight will happen unless Ward's insistence on suing his promoter keeps it from happening. Both guys have been talking it up for a while, and if GGG can't get middleweights to fight him, he won't have a choice but move up. Once he moves up, fighting Ward is inevitable.

I agree, but there are a lot of posters who accuse fighters of ducking fighters a division or two above who will have to contradict themselves to say otherwise here.

Definitely agree, though. How can Golovkin duck Ward when he probably can't even get an offer for the fight? There has to be some sort of offer made for one fighter to duck another. Manny ducking Floyd in 09, Quackenson ducking Kovalev this year, situations like that where the fight can be signed but one fighter won't.

                bull crap

GGG is a HBO star and rightfully so. He has produced KO's in his last 14 fights I believe. The competition has been a bunch of no names to be honest. Geale will be his toughest test to date. Froch and Chavez are household names for sure, but Ward even more so. He'll make a bundle of money if he travels to England to fight Froch. If he wins convincingly than the fight with Ward would be a no brainer. Ward needs to get his contract settled and back in the ring. But any boxing fan would pay to see that fight. Loeffler is bull****ting saying that this fight is not a money fight. Lets see it

I hear you and I agree

I don't accuse Ward of ducking Kovalev. I think its silly he thinks he has nothing to gain if he beats him and I mess around but its clearly not a "duck"

And good point about the offer thing. Aduckis was a clear duck. Ward or his team never made an offer. All he said was "I'll fight Golovkin," same as Golovkin.
