Lara should have thrown more punches. That's all there is to it. He was doing all the right things. Stylistically Canelo could have done a lot better cutting off the ring and mixing up his punches. He has power in both hands and Lara definitely felt it to the body. That's what won Canelo the fight. He has yet to impress me with his boxing fundamentals, but his power and combinations is what carries him. Against Cotto that will do him well.

Against other boxers I'm not sure. I actually think Pacquiao should take the Canelo challenge at 153. He could fight on the back foot and win that fight I am convinced.
