MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Francisco Vargas (20-0-1, 14KOs) go the biggest win of his rising career with a third round stoppage of former two division beltholder Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (34-4, 31KOs) to capture the WBO International/NABF super featherweight titles.
The bigger Vargas was getting the better of Juanma during their early exchnages and applied a lot of pressure. During the third, Vargas turned up the pressure even more and a series of hard punches put Juanma down at the end of the round. He was badly hurt but saved by the bell. The corner of Juanma felt their boxer was too hurt, and he most certainly was, to send out for the fourth round.
