Comments Thread For: Abril To Defend Title Against Tatli on 9/20 in Helsinki

WBA lightweight champion Richard Abril (18-3-1) will defend the title on September 20 at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki (Finland) against Edis Tatli (23-0), the current WBA I/C title holder and official challenger for the EBU title. There had been some talk that Abril would face Anthony Crolla on a September date in the UK, but that won't happen.

His name hasn't been Richard for awhile. It's Richar.

Better get rid of Per Ake Persson.

Eh. The Troyanovsky fight was much more interesting. Too bad he got injured.

You have to respect Abril for defining the word "world champion." Not many champs nowadays are willing to defend their title on another continent

I like the idea. It might be because he feels he can't find an audience for his style in the US. Boxing fans in other parts of the world seem to enjoy pure boxing more than certain parts of the Americas.

Weren't they in talks to defend with Crolla as recent as last week? I definitely didn't see this one coming.

Tatli is a very basic fighter and Abril will just have a field day. Mr. Abril by a wide UD or even a shut out.

I think he should base himself out of Germany. Those guys fill up 50 k soccer arenas to watch Klitchskos defend, well then I'm sure Abril would be like their Gatti.
