Peruvian fighter Alberto Rossel was promoted to mini flyweight 108 pounds regular champion by the Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association.

Rossel was the interim champion since April 14, 2012 and successfully defended it four times against Jose Alfredo Rodriguez, Karluis Diaz, Walter Tello, José Alfredo Zúñiga and Gabriel Mendoza.

His last defense was in March 2014. The new WBA mini flyweight regular champion’s record is 32-8, 13 KO´s.

Always like to see hard-working fringe contenders win belts, but this is a classic example of the bastardizing effect of interim belts. Rossel held an interim belt for two years, defended against second-rate opposition at home and never fought for the full title, but now he gets elevated when the belt becomes vacant. Hopefully he'll fight somebody legit next to earn it

That is the WBA. Similar to Lara getting the "regular" title while it was really Floyd the champ ("super" and "regular"). Lara never fought Floyd and after facing Trout got the belt Long time ago to be a champion a fighter had to defeat the active champ. I hope one day the organization stop these free passes.
