Think the Pac vs Rios fight did poorly with 475k PPV buys? How many will a fight with Algieri sell?

I actually hope it outsells the Floyd vs Maidana rematch. That fight is just as crappy, and unlike Manny, Floyd had a lot of better options.

There was really a short list to choose from.
Algieri, Abregu (no notable wins lately), Amir Khan, JMM (doesn't want to go to Macau), Guerrero, Thurman

PAC's list was short... and out of Abregu, Khan, Guerrero,...Algieri had the best win lately.

Not saying this is a great fight, but really what other options were there?
Like you said the main thing is Algieri's latest win. But i would rather see all of the fighters that you named before Algieri. And that list you gave wasn't exactly short. Since Algieri is 140 you could throw in Matthysse and Peterson. Devon Alexander just got an easy win, he could also fight again this year. That's about 8 better options. I could prob keep goin

Algieri is a promoters dream, Arum would want nothing more than for this kid to upset Pacquiao.

I 100% agree. Boxing loses out to many of the other mainstream sports when it comes to kids choices on what to pursue. Boxing is typically for the poor underdog who came from nothing, as where tennis or golf are for rich kids and even hockey, football and baseball etc are not typically known as sports dominated by the children of the poorest families (although there are some exceptions of course). Boxing, you have to fight your way to the top so it's not exactly the choice of kids who have a variety of options. Someone like Algieri can bring the story of someone with many options who doesn't need the money and is in it truly for the trill of competition and sport. Not to mention he picked up the sport extremely late and is now a world champion and how he won the belt was not short of drama worthy of decades of the sweet science. He himself said, it's not about the money, and his team kept reiterating that point. Fight might not sound like the best but I agree it is a good story, the young undefeated underdog who is financially comfy and started late but is in it because he chose to compete, against the legendary little poor boy from the Philippines whom was broke when he fought his way to the top as he chose fighting as a means to take care of his family.

Hopefully Algieri's story can attract more types of people to pick up boxing at a late age as a career. Plus he's a champ now, knocked off a tough customer in Ruslan and has proven he can fight. I say let's do it!!

Promoter Bob Arum is sure, however, that if his company, Top Rank Inc., secures Algieri as Pacquiao’s opponent for a Nov. 22 fight in Macau, China, that Algieri will be a compelling ‘B’ side of their HBO Pay-Per-View main event.

“He’s definitely an option because there’s a great storyline,” Arum told BoxingScene.com. “You know, a college kid who has a masters degree [from New York Institute of Technology], a superb boxer, speaks well. He has all the elements to make an interesting match for Manny Pacquiao both inside and outside the ring. So sure, we’re considering it.” [Click Here To Read More]

Hard to believe there's nobody on the GBP side that wants a Pacquiao whooping.
