Comments Thread For: Bob Arum Likes 'Great Storyline' For Pacquiao-Algieri

Whether Chris Algieri actually would be a legitimate threat to Manny Pacquiao is a source of great debate among everyone from message-board sparring partners to professional matchmakers.

Promoter Bob Arum is sure, however, that if his company, Top Rank Inc., secures Algieri as Pacquiao’s opponent for a Nov. 22 fight in Macau, China, that Algieri will be a compelling ‘B’ side of their HBO Pay-Per-View main event.

“He’s definitely an option because there’s a great storyline,” Arum told BoxingScene.com. “You know, a college kid who has a masters degree [from New York Institute of Technology], a superb boxer, speaks well. He has all the elements to make an interesting match for Manny Pacquiao both inside and outside the ring. So sure, we’re considering it.” [Click Here To Read More]

What "storyline"? Algieri having a degree hardly makes it any more interesting.

I give Manny a pass on taking that fight because he has no other option right now, but it's still uncompetitive and uninteresting.

This makes me wonder about the state of Golden Boy. If Arum and and Oscar are supposed to be cool again, seems GBP has plenty of better fighters that could fight Pac...

      ...Or do they?

Is this a dream or nightmare?

I believed I was dreaming when I heard Pac vs Algieri. Turns out this is real and it's going to happen.

Some fighters are tied up with upcoming fights.

There was really a short list to choose from.
Algieri, Abregu (no notable wins lately), Amir Khan, JMM (doesn't want to go to Macau), Guerrero, Thurman

PAC's list was short... and out of Abregu, Khan, Guerrero,...Algieri had the best win lately.

Not saying this is a great fight, but really what other options were there?

He said Algieri is an "option" so maybe they're looking elsewhere as well. They kinda have to since this fight is just ****ty.
