Kindelan (2005) - Khan is overrated 'He does not have a good chin'

    Pretty good prophecy.

    Kindelan: Khan is overrated
    Last updated at 12:53 11 May 2005

Olympic lightweight champion Mario Kindelan says expectations of Amir Khan are unrealistic and insists he will beat him again in their rematch on Saturday.
Khan, 18, takes on the legendary Cuban in what may prove the youngster's final fight as an amateur before moving into the professional ranks.
The bout is taking place at the Reebok Stadium in his home town of Bolton this weekend.
But Kindelan, 33 - who retired following victory against Khan in Athens last summer only to change his mind - insists he will show up his young opponent in front of what is expected to be a huge TV audience.
"Khan should stay amateur," Kindelan said. "He does not have a good chin and he does not punch hard. He's not as good as British people think. They make him out to be better than he is.
"I hurt him [in the Olympic final] but he did not hurt me. I'm coming to Britain to beat him again, of course."
Kindelan also claimed the young Lancastrian will fail to live up to his potential when he goes professional.
"I don't think he will make a good pro," he added. "He doesn't have the style to be a top professional."
But Khan hit back, saying: "I'm confident I'm going to beat Mario Kindelan this time. He's never hurt me. His timing is perfect but he is not a big puncher."

To Khan's credit he did beat Kindelan in that fight. Kindelan got a big paycheck though to show up. I don't think his heart was into the fight like it was during the gold medal match.

Mario was nice to Khan he cameback 3 years after retirement after beating Khan for a gold medal just for 1 fight to let Khan get 1 win over him finally he was so obsessed with Kindelan he wouldn't turn pro unless he got that damn match even 3 years after the dude was done

Im not sure where you got your information but as far as facts are concerned, Khan got beat by Kindelan in 2004 and had the rematch in 2005 before Khan turned pro.

As far as Kindelans comments are concerned, he was somewhat right. He was right about his chin but Khan has managed to become a very good pro.

Rematch wtf? Kindelan was retired he came out of retirement from to fight Khan look it up here's the quote those are facts.

" In May 2005, aged 34, he came out of retirement and travelled to Bolton, England for a third fight with Amir Khan. He had beaten Khan twice already the previous year ***8211; in the Pre-Olympic tournament and the Olympic Lightweight final"

He must have gotten a pretty penny for getting of his couch for that Khan was damn near obsessed with the guy.

Over-rated by whom, exactly? If you told me a 17 year old boxer has won silver at the Olympic games, as a boxing fan, i would also be keen and excited about him.

Kindelan was talking about Khan's chin and punching power when he was a teenager. It's odd to see Kindelan downplay Khan's achievement when he had access to some of the finest amateur coaches and one of the best amateur system in place.
