Haymon is on borrowed time already, his reputation is edging towards that of Don King. He is offside with the major boxing network, he's double-crossed the biggest boxing promoter, boxing writers and fans consistently speak of him negatively, he's associated with mismatches and big fights not happening, he's the subject of multiple lawsuits, and bar a few fighters his "stable" is over the hill.

But how different is all this to what Arum's done in the past, yet he's given a pass by many.

If the offer makes sense I don't see why not. The objective is to make money. And Top Rank had options on Provo and I'm sure they would have with Gamboa if he was victorious. So technically, Provo vs. any Top Rank fighter is an in-house fight.

It's either gonna be strictly in-house fights, or out-of house showcase fights like Rod Salka for Haymon fighters.

But you don't mention Garcia/Matthysse or Broner/Maidana.

Why would anyone support that? None of those other promoters have made a mockery of the sport by trying to turn boxing into WWE.

Like Top Rank has? The smaller promoters they work with are tied to Top Rank/HBO as well. Provodnikov had options.

Haymon has definitely found a loophole between advising and promoting. His massing talent is no different than SCott Boras getting all the best baseball clients or the football agency that has the bulk of the quaterbacks-they have been able to sell their clients on the strategy that if we all work together we all benefit.

A monoploy would be if you purchased all of the companies in a given business. Boxers choose to sign with Haymon so its much different.Your last paragraph sums up how I feel minus my other concerns. I agree and stated in my 1st post in the thread that Al deserves criticism for his involvement in this 8/9 card and if he continues that stuff then he will kill his intentions before they even start.

If Haymon signs the rights to "advise" the lion's share of the big name boxers, he will then control whom they fight, where they fight, how much they make and how much we pay to see them fight. We're pretty much seeing that now. Competition between advisers & promoters could virtually disappear if Haymon had that kind of widespread power. That my friend, would be a monopoly.

Marquez couldn't get the Pac rematch until his GBP contract expired. And isn't the objective of a boxing company to sign as many fighters as you can? You're criticizing Haymon for running a business which is ridiculous.

Fact of the matter is you had King, you had Arum, you had GBP, and the new power is Al Haymon. He is here to stay and will be here until somebody new emerges on the scene.

Goldenboy specifically Richard Shaeffer tried to steal Pacqiuao from Arum? knowing he was still under contract.

When Floyd retired Richard was forced to bow down to Arum and fake smile him, he had no other stars, Arum NEVER had to work with them but he did, so if that was a guy who was only for in house fights I dont know what to say.

Arum put Pacman in with Barrera rematch, JMM rematch, Hatton, Oscar, all golden boy fighters, so the concept that he only wanted to protect Pac and do in house fights is a lie. He also put cotto in with mosley, he put margarito in with mosley, hopkins with pavlik, etc.


Floyd Mayweather acts as Haymons mouth piece, he deflects because that is what Haymon taught him. Haymon and Richard are the ones who want to do in house fights and use a UFC model. so Arum is the easiest scape goat because he is in the public eye while Haymon is in the background, Richard words revealed the truth when Oscar said he wanted to end the cold war Richard got mad and said he will NEVER do business with Arum.

Then he would be amassing power like Scott Boras has. That isn't a monopoly its an oligarchy-not that a Haymon and a few others running boxing would be a good thing because all oligarchy's are frought with problems.

we agree it would be good for boxing so long as Haymon makes the best matches and the fights fans want to see. If it then makes HBO put on Haymon fighters so we get the cross promotional fights we've missed-then its truly great. We also agree if danny v salka and the 8/9 card becomes the rule rather than the exception than it would be horrible.

But that model isn't sustainable-especially when HBO, ESPN and Epix are all broadcasting boxing. A lot of posters consumed with hate haven't actually thought about the competition and how it will surely affect whatever shows haymon puts on.
