If I had to pick one trait I'd say chin. No great ever got by on a glass chin. Almost all of the ATGs have chins of granite. Wlad has a so so chin and I'm still waiting for him to fight someone who he can't keep at bay with his reach and height, as much as I enjoy his technique and gentlemanly attitude outside the ring.

There's many different qualities that are important in a fighter. For me though, being a trainer as long as I have been and seeing so many fighters walk in and out of gyms I trained it, the best quality is HEART.

Heart aka BALLS...it's the most underrated of all the qualities. I have seen athletic freaks take on boxing, who have the fastest hands, best reaction and look like world beaters on the bags and mitts.

Yet when they face adversity in the ring, they turn into cowards. I have seen great amateurs have their first pro fight, and shrivel in the lights.

Having heart, having balls is the difference between winning the fight in the 11th and 12th round, or losing it. Boxing is a sport that will tell you who you are, whether you like it or not. You can't lie to yourself, you have to look into your own soul and what you will see will either lift you up, or shame you.

That's why some fighters when they lose for the first time, retire or never come back the same. It's easy to beat people up that aren't on your level, it's hard to face the fact you are losing and your heart will not allow you to quit.

It has to be in the DNA of the fighter. It's the reason fighters like Margarito were so popular, they never quit no matter the beating they were taking. Some of you may think that's ******, but that means they aren't a mutt, that means they have a fighters blood in their veins and that is truly hard to find.
