Mayweather is banking on Cotto retaining his title and then facing him in May for his title AT The Garden which would make for a great storyline. He would fight a weakened version of Cotto after a physically taxing fight against Canelo.

This process justifies a fight with either 3 and kills 2-3 birds with one stone.
