Comments Thread For: Chagaev-Oquendo Early Fight Results From Grozny

Grozny, the Chechen capital and the wounded heart of Caucasus, fresh of effective post-war renaissance of the recent time, celebrates the biggest boxing event in its history at the Ahmat Arena, filled in with local fans of the sport as well as casual spectators.

In the main contest of the show, promoted by Timur Du****ev of the Terek Box Event and inspired by all-mighty Chechen president and spiritual leader Ramzan Kadyrov, former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev takes on veteran fighter Fres Oquendo for the World Boxing Association's heavyweight "regular" title. Eight more boxing contests form the undercard of the tourney. [Click Here To Read More]

I know Ruslan has never been a bodybuilder or a fitness model in his career but that 10 - 15lb's of extra baggage nearly cost him the fight tonight and gassed badly in the second half. Luckily he banked most of the early rounds so he could take off them late rounds. Hopefully winning this belt motivates him to train harder to get rid of that excess baggage.

that was a snoozefest. I had to stop it several times to replay rounds as I could barely stay awake. chagaev got the win but he will get beat by any legit contender. he is so slow & he looked out of shape. fres looked like a 41 year old who was there to spar. he had his moments but for the most part his punches looked like they didn't have much on them. the regular champion will milk this belt now. I wonder if he will be man enough to defend against better guys then matt skelton & carl drumond? Haye & marco huck were there so I wonder if either will be an opponent? I can see it being someone like gerber or manuel charr but james toney or oliver McCall can't be counted out as Russians like to fight the over 40 club...maskaev or adamek? on a serious note I think that luis Ortiz is in the mix as he must be near the top of the WBA rankings...

Without doubt now it's pretty clear that Klitschko's win over Chagaev is worth more to his cv than his easy scalp over David Haye. With Chagaev now a two time champion Klitschko's record is looking better and better.

Yeah I can't get past the fact that Fres Oquendo was fighting for a major world title. Pathetic.

he lost to povetkin & has since beat jodo pudar & fres oquendo. his prior bests were john ruiz, kali meehan & valuev. do you really think this is a great win? john ruiz had a decent career but that is chagaev's best win...

Haye's best ever wins are over a couple of guys that Chagaev beat years previously so yes, Wlad's win over Chagaev is much, much more impressive than his win over Haye.

Haye's cv is nowhere near as good as Chagaev's.
