Comments Thread For: Kiko Martinez: I Wanted Frampton To Prove I'm Better!

IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23KOs) is looking for a big measure of revenge on September 6th in Belfast, when he faces Carl Frampton (18-0, 13KOs) in a rematch before an expected huge crowd of 16,000 fans at Titanic Quarter.

Frampton knocked out Martinez in nine rounds last February. Martinez made a miraculous comeback by the end of the year. He returned to knockout Damian David Marchiano, then knocked out Jhonatan Romero to capture the IBF championship, and retained the belt with a knockout of Jeffrey Mathebula. He returned earlier this year to knock out Hozumi Hasegawa.

You must be real dumb. He draws 16000 fans in Belfast. Martinez wouldnt even draw 5000 fans if the fight was in Madrid.

16000 people watching= watched by his mom in boxing. If the Argument you are trying to make is money you are ignorant . If you don't know the Domestic fighter mentality when you see it you are blind he is making chump change compared to what he could make beating the real challenges on HBO/Showtime (unless they didn't think he could why wouldn't they?), unless you have a boxnation account or are a hard core fan you have no idea who the **** Frampton is. Kiko at least has some damn exposure here Frampton not leaving the nest seems ever. I guess he will get beat when he bites more than he can chew at home without realizing it like Burns.

Or, maybe he just wants to win a world title so that when he does go over to the states he's going to get paid well for it. And Frampton has done more travelling overseas to fight than most fighters have by 18 fights. In fact 50% of Frampton's fights have been outside his home country.

And how do you expect him to fight Rigo when Rigo's promoter won't put up the money for Rigo to fight anyone decent?

Frampton never stepped out of the UK, and as far as cheapskates go, all I hear from The UK is how expensive it is to get somebody like Vazquez to come there to defend his title. Maybe it wouldn't be so costly if they left home sometime. See what it's like getting the short end of the stick.

So he's never fought outside of the UK? Big deal. How many American boxers have fought outside of North America within 18 fights? In fact how many top American boxers have fought outside their home country at all?

Mayweather hasn't. Roy Jones didn't in his prime. It took Hopkins 28 fights to do so.

Frampton is from Northern Ireland and that's where his biggest fanbase is, yet for half of his fights he's fought in England.

                  So, basically, you're wrong.

Hmmm it isn't just the U.K. Japan and Thailand are loaded with talent but tend to remain at home having the contenders go to them if they want the belt almost every time. Mexico and the Philippines tend to the fighters that travel most from what I see.

Then you have fighters that come from countries whom have little interest in boxing such as Kiko Martinez who's Mathebula homecoming wasn't even televised, so they travel even as a champion to defend their belt in the challengers own backyard.
