Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns' Manager Wants Weight Move To 140-Pounds

Ricky Burns (36-4-1, 11KOs) is not ready to call it a day, says manager Alex Morrison. Burns is now 1-1-2 in his last four fights and was upset last Friday by unknown Dejan Zlaticanin over twelve rounds. Burns struggled in all four outings - with Terence Crawford, Ray Beltran and Jose Gonzalez being the other three opponents. Burns' last impressive win was a fourth round TKO of Kevin Mitchell in September 2012.

In Burns's biggest wins (Martinez, Moses & Mitchell) he had a distinct size advantage.

Moving up to 140 further takes that advantage away. I don't see the sense in it and looking at the top 10, I don't see anyone he can beat (Judah is a maybe).

Burns is done as a World Champion fighter, moving to 140 I can only see him getting KO'd he wont have the power to make any fighter respect him and his heart will only take him so far.

              Bad idea.

He needs to have a size advantage or he will lose to any decent fighter, as we've seen.

My issue is he never really got blown out. He struggled even in losing. He has the ability to hang on, even do some damage. Could be he's just missing something in his character, a couple of losses aren't a death sentence. I keep suggesting a road trip, learn how boxing is done in different places, call it post graduate work. I tend to respect guys more after they lose, Khan comes to mind, than protected undefeateds.
