Comments Thread For: Hot Cuban Prospect Hairon Socarras Ready For Fight Night

Undefeated super bantamweight prospect Hairon “El Maja” Socarras 11-0-1 (8 KO's) makes his third ring appearance of 2014 as he faces David Warren in a 6 round bout Thursday evening at Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton, West ******ia.

The bout is slated for a contracted weight of 125 lb., which Socarras made with ease during Wednesday’s weigh-in. The same could not be said for his opponent; Warren came in more than a full weight class over the limit, tipping the scales at 131 lb.

By commission rules, Warren should have been subject to a fine and also with the option of the fight being canceled altogether due to safety precautions. Ever the professional, Socarras agreed to move forward to fight night.

"We came from Florida to fight, being overweight is not a problem for me and accept it up with that disadvantage" Socarras said. [Click Here To Read More]

Couldn'd they find an opponent with a worse record? C'mon this Warren guy is 4-20...the least Socaras should do is knock the can out within the first round. SMH

Hairon is still in the developmental stage. He'll be fighting guys like this until he's 20-0-1, probably, then his handlers will pick up the level of comp. This is why undefeated records mean nothing and resume means everything. Socarras is an interesting prospect. They have to make sure he's brought up right. Angelo Santana was looking pretty good, too, but he might've been brought up too soon and now his future is uncertain.

Honestly, though, I don't understand the catchweight clause for this fight. Hairon fights at 126, the fight was set for 125 and his opponent tips the scales at 131? Strange. But, judging from Warren's record, it probably won't matter.

Sure those guys he is feasting on are tomato cans but GOD DAMN does he have some vicious K.O.'s. There's one with a left hook that obliterated the poor can. The rest seem to have been with that wicked right hand. You're right though, let's see what he shapes into the stronger his opposition gets. That left hook and straight right look mean doe

I think his espn bout last year hurt him. He didnt perform as expected and they took a step back. But fights like that one is what he needs not this crap.

It looks like they just want to keep Hairon busy. At this rate, he'll get in five or six fights this year. With that kind of activity, many of his bouts have to be against easy opposition.
