The upcoming doubleheader on August 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, appears to be an interim-showcase for a planned junior welterweight unification bout between WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16KOs) and IBF champion Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16KOs).

Peterson will be facing Edgar Santana in the co-feature, and Garcia appears in the main event against Rod Salka. Showtime will televise both fights.

This is the weirdest career strategy I've heard in awhile. So Angel wants Peterson to fight a live dog (Algieri), AFTER his August 9th date, and then he'll get a shot at Danny? When would that be, Spring of 2015?
In the meantime, Danny is gonna just sit and do nothing after he smokes a completely overmatched and undeserving Salka? Danny alluded to moving up to '47 six months ago although Angel quashed that statement almost right away. I doubt Danny WANTS to put himself through the hell it takes to make JWW anymore. If this scenario plays out as stated by Danny's father, I'd give Lamont more than a great chance at grabbing all those belts.

I dont usually agree with much that lunatic says but this seems like a great idea, more fighter should aim to clean out there division before moving up, in the mean time maybe danny can take on broner or rematch matthysse

I don't know man - I think Camp Garcia was legitimately shook by the Herrera debacle, hence the Rod Salka farce. If his aim is to unify w/ Lamont, there's no way in hell he risks that by stepping in with Mats or Broner.

It's not a bad thing to do.... But these guys have had access to each other for the longest time. Algieri still has a rematch clause with Provo, if Bob doesn't talk him out of it, and nothing would get done until late 2015, early 2016.

My point, algieri will be tied up until next year... These guys are under the same umbrella in like every category.... Why not fight each other?
