Comments Thread For: Chagaev Promises To Make Good on New Title Shot

From the depths of the Zaire jungle to a small town in Montana whose audacious hosting left it on the brink of bankruptcy, the world heavyweight title thought it had seen it all.

But the so-called 'richest prize in sport' will break new and controversial ground on Sunday when Ruslan Chagaev and Fres Oquendo fight for the WBA belt in the Chechen capital of Grozny.

The event is the brainchild of Chagaev's manager Timur Du****ev and Chechnya's pro-Moscow president Ramzan Kadyrov, who himself claims to be a former keen amateur boxer.

"This will be the biggest boxing show in the world," insists Du****ev, who will fly in Hall of Fame ring announcer Michael Buffer for the occasion and has swathed the city in 80-foot high posters of the combatants.

David Haye will be ringside, and he will fight the winner.

Nothing wrong with that if it happens? Some people were saying Haye ducked Chagaev before. He's a decent fighter Chagaev, but the belt is a joke.

Doesn't Haye have a injury to heal from or a press conference to go to instead...

The winner faces Ortiz.Chagaev or Ortiz won't seek a defence versus Haye unless the money is right or the WBA orders it.

Haye did duck Chagaev,he fabricated a story he couldn't face Chagaev or Povetkin then face Wlad afterwards as it would have surpassed his 31st birthday.apparently he promised his family and himself he would leave the game on or before as to protect his health.

If Haye fights again it will be the fifth time he has arranged a fight since his 31st birthday.evidently their isn't any truth in his previous story,it was all just a ruse to make sure he had a belt to seek a multiple million unification.with Povetkin and Chagaev being in their prime around the time Haye was ordered to fight either.

Chagaev with his hepatitis B could not enter the UK to compete, even then he would have had to Povetkin wherever he pleased.Haye shat at the thought of defending in Germany against a career toughest opponent in Chagaev.it was blatant Haye didn't fancy another defence before a unification as he knew he would be knocked out by either wherever it took place.

This is borderline criminal by the WBA Chagaev and Oquendo are fat old has beens who have done absolutely nothing to warrant a world title shot let alone a vacant belt. The heavyweight division at least should be the division that we need clarity with 1 champion. Not 5 potential champions should Wladimir get beat or call it a day.

I don't think so regardless of the story you are talking like Chagaev is the second coming of Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko. Chagaev is only 5'10 5'11 at the most and is a slow technical boxer who only hardcore fans know hence why Haye probably did not give a damn about the fight Chagaev has not done nothing relevant in boxing since 2009. Haye would have easily landed his bombs on Chagaev.

Why wouldn't he face him 3 years ago then ?

So essentially you're trying to spin a tale that David Haye ducked Chagaev to fight Wladimir Klitschko?
