  • Going by the POD Index Ortiz Jr seems like a solid ref. Sammartino average. No mention of the other guy.

It's only a week away. If anyone is interested/bored enough for a pre-fight read, then please feel free to have a look:

Ortiz Jr, And Larry Layton are judges. I am not too impressed with either of them. Sammartino is definitely the most experienced of all of them when it comes to world title fights. They should have picked a better crew for this fight. Sammartino is a good choice. They should have brought on Adalaide Byrd and John Keane.

        • Kovalev stops him in the middle I think.

          • It's going to be an easy fight for Kovalev in the way that Algieri was an easy fight for Provodnikov and Garcia was an easy fight for Matthyse...

Aka don't listen to any of the ******ed fanboy morons on here who have never even trained in boxing before and bet on the proven veteran Hopkins...

Hopkins by clear easy UD....If it was prime Hopkins he would stop Kovalev in the 8th-9th round.....I have no idea what people see in Kovalev (and I've tried very hard to look) and why everyone thinks he's so awesome...he's an above average brawler at best with very limited skills who has fought weak easy competition for his entire career.....Can you imagine what Kovalev's record would be if he fought the people Hopkins has fought?? He would have 10+ losses lol....

Nothing special about Kovalev at all.....He's an above average brawler at best fighting in a very weak easy division...

            • Kovalev going to show off that offensive talent. Dude's going to be bolo punching Hopkins left and right, helping B Hops with that lateral movement around the ring.

No, Because she is a good judge. She got many fights right that others got wrong. She got Rios vs Abril right, She got Hopkins vs Calzaghe right, She got Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter right, She got Trout vs Cotto right. Look at all her scorecards. She is a great judge.

The two scores I disagree with. Her score for the Ishe Smith vs Carlos Molina fight and her score for the Vazquez vs Bey fight. She had the right winner, but she had the wrong score. In the Ishe smith vs Carlos Molina fight, She had the wrong winner and the wrong score.

                • Like brush said , David fields reffed the bika dirrel first fight

He showed a hands off approach in that fight

                  That bodes well for Hopkins

Expect to see headbutts, kovalev cut , and people crying about it

Comparing Matthysse with Kovalev in terms of skills is a bit over the top Kovalev is a very well schooled amateur with 215 fights.
But I do admit that Golovkin is somewhat more polished than Kovalev. Mattysse is in fact just a puncher with everage skills.

People tend to think that it's just because of punching power that Golovkin and Kovalev win their fights. Yes - punching power makes huge difference. But if one simply counts punches landed by Golovkin or Kovalev and their opponents it would be obvious that not only power make them win those fights. As you can see by IronDan's reply many still see Golovkin as so-so boxer. That's to be expected because punching power is something that is easier to see.
