Comments Thread For: Frampton: Martinez Beat Weak Champ, Over The Hill Foes

Undefeated Carl Frampton (18-0, 13KOs) is ready to repeat last year's performance, when he knocked out Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23KOs) in nine rounds. This time Martinez holds the IBF super bantamweight crown and the fight will take place in the challenger's backyard at the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Over 16,000 fans are expected to pack the venue to support the champion.

Frampton is not impressed by Martinez's streak of victories since the loss, which included TKO wins over Jeffrey Mathebula, Hozumi Hasegawa and Jhonatan Romero.

If Frampton can just keep his hands up and use a stiff jab as he back-peddles instead of his normal flicker he will be fine. He needs to be patient and wait for the proper time when Kiko gets wild and throws that wild right hand(reminiscent of Salido btw), then he can properly counter him and possibly stop him like he did before, since Kiko tends to leave his chin in the air when he throws his right. A few left hooks to the body and a straight right to the chin from Frampton can be lights out for Kiko, again. Oh and I'm behind Frampton win or lose but Kiko put in work this last year in a half or so since he lost. KO'ing Mathebula, capturing the belt from Romero and stopping Hasegawa is a nice streak. Almost similar to what Nonito did at the same weight except Kiko is severely underrated and overlooked.

He didn't call Romero over the hill but he did label him as a weak champion... lol.

I favor Frampton to win the rematch and I like him as a fighter but he is off on his assessment of Martinez's latest streak. Kiko is on a solid run.

The way Frampton handled Kiko the first time and he has obviously come on leaps and bounds since then, he'll handle Kiko even better now.

I like how Kiko manages to tuck his chin and keep his hands up until he cuts the distance and then unloads, but that's when he exposes himself. However, his inside game is excellent and he knows how to mix it up efficiently when in the phonebooth. In fact I think he was on his way to a possible stoppage against Frampton on the first. Carl was tired and had lowered his hands for the previous 2 rounds or so. He was also getting rocked throughout the night and Kiko's pressure was becoming more and more efficient. If Frampton would have maintained his strategy he displayed in his dominant 1st round, I think he would have came out with the same result but in a much easier fight. Oh and I noticed Kiko comes out guns blazing right from the bell ring in his recent fights, so let's see how Northern Ireland's fighting pride deals with a more composed and confident champion in Martinez.

Frampton has one punch knockout power. Once you have knocked someone out you can do it again.

Frampton has a problem, a few things don't pass the smell test. First off, Kiko is just too willing. I heard, not saw, the last fight ended with a quick stoppage. For Kiko to act happy about going back to Ireland borders on disrespect (not for the Irish) for Frampton. I would normally choose a previous KO winner in a rematch, even if the loser could change his style. Kiko has seen the elephant, he knows how to fix home cooking, the bull is smarter this time around.
