I'm not sold on "Crawford" as a bonafide star action fighter. He needs a willing dance partner otherwise he can stink out the joint. Hopefully HBO doesn't go overboard mis-reading these ratings as a mandate to make him a cornerstone.

Ward has to fight in the ring and not in the courtroom to get some ratings. At this point Crawford is more recognizable and deff. a bigger draw... Ward couldnt pull in +10K in Oakland lol

Not matter what showtime do hbo have done the better in 2014. They have left themselves too much to do in the second half.

I wouldnt go that far just yet but I will say that the fact that he was facing Gamboa had alot to do with the great ratings. Gamboa is the ultimate fan friendly fighter, from his vulnerabilities, his ring savvy, his confidence and swagger and his rare skillset. Combined with Crawford and what he brought, the table was set for a fight fans feast

This is how HBO can make bigger stars than Showtime, they're just the bigger and better platform. Golden Boy is trying to get back in through Schaefer's downfall and collaborating again with Top Rank. Haymon and Mayweather Promotions are moving in the direction over the hill (doesn't look like peaches and cream after Floyd's retirement, unless he gives Mayweather-Pacquiao to HBO as a form of asking forgiveness).

That wasn't just Crawford. Gamboa had a big part in those ratings. Gamboa can also use that to show that he is hugely popular and will remain so for a while.
