the khan fight is the type of surprise your dog leaves on the carpet when you forget to let him out.

Surprised only in the sense that they usually have a Mexican or Mexican American opponent on independance day. Jmm, Ortiz, Canelo in the last few years. The first fight didn't generate that much buzz and most casuals don't even know about the gloves controversy. I doubt Showtime puts too much $$ promoting this fight like the first one, it will do less than 1 million buys.

I feel like the second fight will go exactly the same. I'm not all that excited by the pick but it is what it is.

Why reward a bunch of cheats with a payday? There are also bigger fights out there like Cotto a guaranteed blockbuster plus a chance of making history by snatching that 160lbs belt. Cotto is a free man so I dont see why that fight could not be made.
I've seen a lot of people mention Cotto, i personally think it has about 0% chance. main reason being that HBO Boxing Ken Hershman made pretty clear in an interview(the state of HBO boxing: chris Mannix 2014) what is going on and how HBO is doing business.
he said things like:'' we are not in the one-fight business.'' afterwards he hinted at the bad experience with adonis stevenson. Mayweather is exclusive showtime and i dont think HBO is dumb enough to let cotto fight on HBO to beat a champ on HBO to later on (risk) lose that belt to mayweather who is a showtime fighter. i think both networks like having belts and will make sure not to lose them easily.

Cotto will have some extra HBO fights i predict.

I agree with your comment. Some fans forget about the networks not working together.

Are they actually gonna promote this fight as opposed to the last one?

Know I may be reading to much into his surprise for May.... But I'm thinking May vs Paq.

Well the key promotional piece is that first fight, what they need to do is get that fight replayed on ESPN.
